The Ferryman is an evocative coin-based solo journaling TTRPG about the thoughts remaining in your recently deceased mind as Charon rows you across the river, to where you belong.

The game is an immersive experience where materials, safety tips, and rules are included along the game's narrative.

Through eloquent and enigmatic prompts, as those thoughts that I imagine you have when you die, you get to tell a story of the life that you have left behind.

This game is played alone, it takes around an hour to be played, you need at least one coin, and it's a game about being dead and being taken to the underworld by Charon, so themes might get a little dark, and the general vibes of the game are those.

What other designers thought about The Ferryman

"Armanda Haller's THE FERRYMAN is a quiet evocation of transience, memory, and the knotty act of dying. Its care for the player is assured and tender. A ride with THE FERRYMAN is a sensory -- and sensual, and sensuous -- experience. From a few quick tosses of a coin, we get to imagine the texture of velvet, the aroma of a pomegranate, the sound of the universe, and an engaged listener who can absorb what we choose to share without judgment or hurry."

"A compelling imagining of Charon and your conversation with him as you ride across Acheron, The Ferryman is the first interactive poetry RPG I've come across, and it is a marvel and delight. Armanda's writing sets the mood and tone during the introduction before laying out questions and choices before you continue the stanzas as your own. Uniquely, the rules to play The Ferryman are not explicitly defined like a technical text, but instead, you're allowed to clearly infer them during the opening lines, exactly like a great poem's meaning"

Costs & Finances

This game has 1004 words. If I'd written it for someone else I would be paid around 100 USD (0.1 per word). Editing costs other 100 USD. This game has no layout, it was done on Google Docs. Making this game cost 200 USD.  At the price that is sold, I need to sell 67 copies to cover that.

Every game I release has this detail so people can grasp how much costs to produce the things we enjoy.

SPC - Creadore de Long Haul 1983 and Fake Chess

The Ferryman is a one-way ride down the river Acheron. You are dead and there's no going back. All you have are your senses, fading memories and the company of Charon. The text reflects this well. Rather than instructing you, Charon speaks directly to you and guides the way. Charon is patient, caring and curious. He answers all your questions and asks just as many about the life you led.

You spend time thinking about what comes next, what once was and what is around. You toss your obol (the coin) for fleeting imagery and vague feelings. When I played, it felt like I was grasping at the wind for a storm that already passed me.
